About Progress Pilates of NC

Laura is the Founder of Progress Pilates of NC. Her path to Pilates began in 2012 as a respite from her corporate career. She began practicing regularly to help alleviate low back pain and other imbalances associated with years spent working long hours sitting behind a desk. Laura was amazed by the incredible results from her consistent Pilates practice and eventually decided to pursue teacher training so she could share her first-hand appreciation for Joseph Pilates’ method with others.

Laura believes that Pilates is truly for every body. She strives to provide an encouraging, welcoming, and warm studio environment to help each client progress towards their individual wellness goals—whether that goal is better balance, to alleviate back or hip pain, or improved posture. Clients come to her so that they can get back to playing golf or gardening without pain, or so they can lift their grandchildren more safely. Laura seeks to help clients move through life with more confidence and ease.

Laura brings her well-honed client skills to bear in the studio environment, having worked with clients for years in the investment management and book publishing industries prior to joining the Pilates community. She graduated from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and received graduate degrees at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and University College London. A classically trained Pilates instructor, Laura completed The Pilates Center’s Intermediate Teacher Training Program at InsideOut Body Therapies in Durham, NC under the guidance of Deborah Matthews and Mischa Decker.  She is a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher and also teaches Pilates at Duke University Recreation and Physical Education.

Laura is very active in her community. She served previously on the Board of Directors for Book Harvest (Finance and Investment committees) and now serves on the Leadership Council for Book Harvest Durham. She also serves on the Scholarship Committee for the Triangle Community Foundation. Laura lives in Durham with her husband and a senior dog.
